Referencing - Images

Image from a website

  • - Every image included in your assignment needs a caption.  If the image is not your own work, it also requires an in-text citation.
  • - The caption should include
    • - The word Figure and a number (from 1, in numerical order), both in bold font.
    • - A title or brief description of the figure in italics. Include an in-text citation with author, date, and page number.
  • - If any further information is needed to clarify contents in the image, add the word Note. In the case of papers for publications, the copyright permission that has been granted is added here. The word Note should be added in italics, followed by a full stop.
  • - Enter a full reference in the references list.

Move the image title to the start of the reference. n.d. = no date.

If there is no title, write a brief description of the image.

Image from Google images

Go to the original source by selecting the image and then clicking ‘Visit page’.

Then follow the format above for images from a website.

Image from a book or journal
